In an industry rarely considered exciting, we are driven to bring a new level of sophistication to our marketplace.


 
  Background
 

Marks Supply Inc., an Ontario based plumbing wholesaler, was established in 1962 and ran two locations in Kitchener and Guelph. In 1989, on the tail end of the building boom, we opened our 3rd location in Brantford. In the last few years we have added the following locations: Burlington 1992, London 1996, Niagara Falls 1998, Windsor in 2001 and our newest Showroom Location in Etobicoke in 2009

To what can we attribute all this growth? Our success is directly linked to our conviction to provide exceptional customer service; to maintain a highly educated, knowledgeable team of employees; and to embrace new, innovative technology.

Everyone at Marks Supply attends regular courses and seminars to upgrade and renew required skills in order to better service our customers.

We also like to go where others fear to tread.

At the beginning of February 1996 we went on-line with the Eclipse� computer distribution system. We were the first company in Canada to use this ultra-modern system, drastically increasing our ability to grow and enabling us to provide unmatched customer service.

With our Eclipse system and EDI we can communicate automatically with customers and vendors that also deal through EDI. For customers that request it, we can connect their windows based PC with Internet to our Eclipse system through our VPN software. This provides them with up-to-date inventory levels and pricing 24hrs a day. In 1999 we bar-coded our Kitchener warehouse, and now receive and ship our inventory through the use of scan guns. This has lead to increased accuracy and fast order processing. In 2005 we also added signature capture terminals to all our order counters, which allows us to provide customers with proof of signature on invoices sent by paper or fax.

Not only are we expanding as a company, and growing through technology, we are also venturing into new product areas. In 1962 we started out as a plumbing, heating, and industrial wholesaler. In 1996 we entered into the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) field with a full line of gas fireplaces, furnaces, air conditioners, boilers, exhaust ducting, B & C vent pipe and fittings -- and anything relating to these products.

  What Makes Us Different
 

Ok, we admit it! When we first heard the buzz of "continuous improvement" we thought it was just a bunch of navel gazing. However, we also readily admit that our industry is lagging far behind the rest of the business world as far as "development" and "advancement" in business processes are concerned. And, of course, there was our absolute belief that we could "do things better" so, in 1997 we took the plunge and created an internal vehicle for our employees to submit their improvement ideas.

Our staff understands that we need to stay well ahead of the competition to remain as healthy as always, and together we have whole-heartedly embraced our improvement culture.
